    My group and I are doing some background study on the website www.artofthetitle.com . We can learn more about titles at the start of movies and gain ideas on how we should do our titles. Many other movies title sequences are available on the website, allowing us to see different examples of the many styles and genres, and how it influences the movie’s title sequence. There is information about designers and studios so you can learn more about them and what their particular style is, and there is a few horror examples that my group and I can explore. There are top 10 title designs of the year, which could be a great example to look at. We see that each title is personally influenced and we hope to gain inspiration so we can add our unique style to our movie.   Genre research (It Chapter 2) Camera Angles (CAMS) - I noticed in the movie that there is a frequent amount of low angles, eye levels, extreme close-ups, high angles, and tracking shots. These angles and shots were used to either show the reactions on the character's face, make the character feel like it's being followed or watched, create dramatic tensions or emphasize how scary the villain is. Mis-en-scene (CLAMPS) - The costumes of the characters were realistic, casual outfits for the protagonists and an old, torn, and dirty outfit for the intended character of the antagonist.  The lighting depended on where the scenes were being shot. For example, in a tunnel when confronting the antagonist it’s usually quite dark or dim, just enough to still the characters, engaging the audience and showing the antagonist emerge from the darkness into the light to seem horrifying, flashing lights in battles.   Genre research (Us) Camera Angles (CAMS) - Common CAMS used in the Us is over-the-shoulder shots. This angle was used in the scene where Pluto the boy of the family went missing on the beach. This angle was used to heighten the fear when seeing the scarecrow that was dripping with blood. Another CAMS was a POV shot used when the younger version of the mom saw her "other" move in the mirror. Extreme close-ups were used a lot to show the danger and craziness in the bad characters' faces while the fear in the normal good characters. Mis-en-scene (CLAMPS) - common CLAMPS in Us are the costume to signify the good people and bad as the bad were red clothes. The lighting usually casts a shadow on their faces with low lighting in the background.   Genre research (Don't Breathe 2) Camera Angles (CAMS) -  There were a lot of low angles, tracking shots, wide shots, over-the-shoulder, middle close up, and extreme close-ups. Either to show fast chasing scenes, show intense emotions on a character's face, or show the character in their surrounding environment. Mis-en-scene (CLAMPS) - The costumes are casual for the protagonist, except for the antagonist whose costume was to be a kidnapper. Since the lighting played a big role in this movie it was almost always in dark lighting. Characters emerge from the dark to the light just to make an attack and emerge back into the darkness, leaving the audience at the edge of their seat, anticipating another sudden move. The movie is supposed to be emotion-filled and the actors played their roles amazingly, it almost felt real.   After a lot of research on the different genres of thriller, horror, and documentary, my group decided that our film will be best as a horror. With the mysterious murderer concept, horror was the best fit in our pitch and the resources needed were at best fit for both of us. In the thriller genre, there would be a need for a lot of fake weapons and props, which could be hard to find or just isn’t in our budget. Documentaries would require time consuming editing to fit a theme and our re-enactments would make the film seem less serious. Horror often has mystery and escape scenes which would create the perfect amount of suspense for our film, that’s why it was the best pick for us.

  Horror : Common camera angles in a horror film (CAMS) - There are many variations of camera angles used in a horror film. Extreme close ups to emphasize facial expressions. Tilt in order to create disorientation. Establishing shots to show the full location which the film is set. Handheld to look realistic. Tracking shots to immerse the audience, and point of view so the audience experiences what the characters experience. Common mise-en-scene in a horror film (CLAMPS) - A setting such as forest or cabin in a horror film creates a tense atmosphere and supports the idea of being alone. Props such as weapons help with story-telling and add to the setting. Lighting in a horror film is usually dark and atmospheric, used to create an effective setting and do jumpscares. Costumes determine the style of the character, good or bad, Makeup emphasizes character expressions.   Documentary: CAMS: Medium shots and dutch angles are mostly used in documentaries. CLAMPS:  Lighting is set at an angle so it falls on actors face at an angle to create an intense mood. Setting can be anywhere depending on the time and place of the story. Props can be anything, mainly to add symbolism to the story. Acting for actors can be anyone that has a significant relation to add to the story development. No costumes in particular, usually casual clothing. Makeup used depending on character in film Editing: Graphics used on screen to show important information to the audience. Usage of Images. Thriller:  CAMS: high level angle- to give the effect of something or someone is being looked down upon. Close ups- show emotions conveying fear  CLAMPS: dull customs, distressed environment and weapons, low lighting creating a gloom, isolated place such as alleyways. I have teamed up with Naturelle. We met in media studies class, she became my friend by sitting by me. We decided to team up because we were comfortable with each other and trusted each other with our grades. I feel like I could explain my ideas to her as she shares her ideas with me and we can build them together. We contact each other when we have questions for each other. Sometimes we're confused about assignments so we ask if we understood the assignment and can we provide assistance to each other. She is a good worker, she cares about her grades just as much as I do which is another reason I chose to partner up with her. We communicate well and we trust and support each other!   Pitch 1: A girl is running the track at a park and then she senses someone following her. She dismisses the odd feeling and continues running just to be chased by someone and killed.  We chose this film because we have the access to the setting of this idea. The actresses that could play the characters. And we will be able to use different angles and shots to convey the suspense in the audience.  Pitch 2: A girl has a mental illness and she is really paranoid from everything around her. She takes several different medications to calm her anxiety and she carries about her day by doing the same very detailed everyday routine. We are not interested in making this film because we couldn’t think of a place besides our homes that was not crowded and noisy.
